Antarctica
Our first, and only (SO FAR.....there will
be more hopefully!) exploration
of Antarctica was February 2001. This adventure has become
our absolute favorite trip, from a collection of fabulous trips!
Leaving from Ushuaia at the southern tip of Argentina, through
the Beagle Straits, our tour was on a Finnish icebreaker with a Russian
crew and Canadian/Australian/Dutch tour group. We made it to within
100 miles of the absolute South Pole before it was time to head back.
A visit to Palmer Station, the US research station, and a swing past
Cape Horn were just two highlights on a trip that was nothing BUT
highlights! Camping on the ice, watching an awesome whale
performance.....just an amazing trip with an amazing tour group!
Two days in Buenos Aires put the cherry on top!
