Antarctica
Our first exploration
of Antarctica was February 2001.
This was NOT a "cruise ship" tour--It
was on a 75 passenger Finnish icebreaker
with a Russian crew and
Canadian/Australian/Dutch tour group.
Leaving from Ushuaia at the southern tip of Argentina, through
the Beagle Straits, we made it to within
100 miles
of the absolute South Pole before it was time to head back.
A visit to Palmer Station, the US research station, and a swing past
Cape Horn were just two highlights on a trip that was nothing BUT
highlights! Camping overnight on the ice, watching an awesome whale
performance, sitting in Penguin Poo....what an amazing trip with an incredible tour group!
Two days in Buenos Aires put the cherry on top!
Following is a very brief glimpse culled from a great master collection!
